There is so much confusing information out there. We see people out busting themselves doing boot camps; there are CrossFit gyms with people doing exercises that we think are simply not possible; then there are the gym junkies who are at the gym every single morning, doing every class possible. The truth is that everyone is different, and your body will tell you what is right for you.
Just being active each day is enough, especially if you play a sport and add in some exercise on the days you don’t have training or a game. For those people who are obsessed with exercise, the way their bodies respond to exercise might be different to yours. It’s also possible that sometimes they might be over exercising because that’s what they think their body needs. There is definitely a clear line between not enough and too much.
It is up to you to decide which exercises you are happy to do and enjoy while not feeling guilty if you are not running marathons or doing boot camp three times a week. If walking every day seems maintainable, then you are on to the right exercise for you. However, if you think you can maintain a park workout or a home circuit a few times a week—and that’s maintainable for a longer period of time—then that’s perfect for you. No matter what you decide, you have to be able to maintain it and not burn out after two weeks.
