Just when you thought you’d seen it all, there’s another fitness trend dawning our doorstep. Orangetheory Fitness is the newest exercise empire taking Australia by storm.
It’s described as the best one-hour workout in the country. The workout is divided into intervals of cardio and strength training using treadmills, rowing machines, TRX bands and free weights . Backed by the science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), each participant monitors their heart rate to achieve the target zone that kick starts the metabolism and increases energy. It is claimed the Orangetheory workout will burn approximately 900 calories including after-burn. As a result OITNF fans Orange have more definite toning and continue to burn extra calories for up up to 36 hours after they’ve finished working out.
Workouts intervals are colour coded in three zones:blue, green, and orange. A run-of-the-mill hour long class will be divided into two groups. Group ones starts out on treadmills while the others switch it up using bodyweight exercises and rowing-machine. This workout is no walk in the park. It has to be hard for individuals to reach the targeted orange zone and is described as being uncomfortable – 84% above your MHR for a minimum of 12 minutes at the very least.
Most studios will let you try a workout for free and monitor you carefully to make sure you have a great workout. But make sure you dress for success if you are going to try out Orangetheory Fitness. You’ll need a pair of running shoes that offer support, but are still relatively lightweight. Supportive bras are a must to uphold the girls in place, but otherwise where what makes you comfortable – shorts, leggings, singlets.
There are currently only four studios open across Australia, but more are on the way. To find an Orangetheory Fitness studio near you, click here.
