Wimbledon is here again! That glorious time of year when the biggest names in tennis go head to head for one of the most prestigious prizes in world sport. It’s almost enough to make you jealous of English weather as we look forward to our very own summer of Tennis in Australia.
As any tennis tragic knows, choosing the right ball makes all the difference. We caught up with Slazenger to find out what goes into their new range of Tennis Balls, now available in rebel stores, and learn how to choose the right ball for your court.
The Wimbledon Ball
In a nutshell, The Wimbledon Ball uses a woven cloth outer, employing a higher quality of wool and a tighter weave which generates more responsiveness on grass. Of course, Wimbledon has always been famous for rain delays and moisture can have a huge effect on the movement of the ball. That’s why Slazenger has employed their patented Hydroguard technology, which repels up to 70% more water than a standard ball.
The Wimbledon Ball also utilises Slazenger’s patented Ultra Vis dye, that helps make the ball more visible against the greenery of Wimbledon’s grass courts. As the official ball of the Championships, The Wimbledon Ball has been engineered to help the world’s best players maximise their performance on grass.
The Hardcourt Ball
Using similar technical features to its Wimbledon counterpart, such as Hydroguard moisture protection and Ultra Vis dye for visibility, The Hardcourt Ball uses a thicker thread in its woven cloth outer, which is specifically designed to be more resilient in abrasive hardcourt conditions. This allows for better performance in tournaments like the Australian Open.
