Everyone loves a good life hack – a tip or shortcut you may not have thought of to make life just a little bit easier. We’ve searched the internet far and wide for the best hacks when it comes to exercise or going to the gym. Some of them are common sense, we can’t believe we haven’t thought to use them before. Read on, to see if there’s a nifty tip you could use.

  1. Stop clock watching. Instead use your iPod playlist as a timer. Put thought into planning it choosing inspirational power songs for the end of your run when you know you get to the point where you’d rather lie down on the road and let the birds peck your eyes out, than run one more step.
  2. Make your own iPod armband by cutting the foot off a long sock. Make sure it’s a snug fit to hold your music in place. Use a branded sock and you’ll have people asking where you got your cool armband from.
  3. We haven’t tried this one to see if it works yet, but lots of exercise buffs have recommended exhaling as your left foot hits the ground to avoid cramps.
  4. Put your gym locker key in your sock or your shoe while you work out. It saves having to carry it or misplace it.
  5. Leaving dry fruity herbal smelling tea bags inside your pongy gym shoes will stop them from stinking out your bag.
  6. Attach your gym locker padlock to the handle of your gym back. This way you’ll never have to dig through your bag searching for it again.
  7. Listen to a thrilling audiobook. You’ll stop clock-watching and end up running a little bit further just to hear to the end of the chapter.
  8. Turn a Netflix binge watch into an exercise marathon. For example; if you are watching Bates Motel, every time you hear the word Norman, you must do five push ups.
  9. Keep a spare gym bag in your car with extra gear. Even if you weren’t planning to go for a workout, you don’t have the excuse of not having the right shoes or clothes.
  10. When you have to be at the gym at 5.00am or earlier, sleep in your workout clothes. It means you’ll be able to have an extra 5-10 minutes shut eye.
  11. Instead of signing up at a gym, pay yourself every time you work out. At the end of every year you’ll have enough money to go away to a fancy spa retreat.
