If you’re not a morning person, it’s very likely you are the type that can’t face eating breakfast and need a sign around your neck warning others not to speak to you until after you’ve had coffee.
Health experts have suggested if you want to kick off your morning the right way, there is a morning routine you should adhere to, every day of the week. And we’re not just talking have a wholesome breakfast. There’s seven things you should be including in your morning rituals. To squeeze them all in before work, you’re going to need to set your alarm a lot earlier.
Sam Sahota, Europe’s most passionate life coach and experienced hypnotherapist Dipti Tait told The Daily Mail the activities you should be doing before you leave the house every day.
- First priority of the day is to have a glass of water
Before you even think about anything else, head for the kitchen and drink a large glass of filtered water. It helps you rehydrate and is a good way to flush out toxins.
Look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a huge grin. Smiling actually calms the nervous system, reducing stress. You should be able to think of at least one good reason to smile. After all, any day above ground is a good reason to smile.
- Warm up your vocal cords in the shower
Music is a mood booster and there’s nothing like a good rousing song session while showering to put a pep in your step. Of course your family or flatmates might not appreciate your vocal styling, but who cares? Singing will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day.
You may not be the type to sit quietly and chant ommm! However all it make take is a few minutes to close your eyes and clear your mind. You may choose to think about an inspirational quote or a daily bible verse. By doing this you are preparing your mind for the day ahead.
- Aim high
Setting targets to achieve throughout the day will give you a sense of purpose. Keep the list small, so it’s a achievable. For example; one of your goals might be to go for a walk at lunchtime or head to rebel and buy yourself new walking shoes, so tomorrow you can start walking at lunch time. Another goal could be to plan out your meals for the rest of the week.
Don’t underestimate the power of a workout, even if it’s only 15 minutes of stretching or yoga. As the day progresses, if you start to feel tired because you got up so early to fit these seven steps in, take five minutes to go for a brisk walk. New studies have shown exercise is just as effective as reaching for caffeine.
This gets your brain fired up for the day. Whether it’s an inspirational autobiography or a book that makes you laugh out loud, reading something educational or funny will start get you in the right frame of mind for the rest of the day.
