During the cold, wet and windy, winter season, it can be tempting to go into hibernation with sole possession of the remote control, pig out on comfort food and invent 101 excuses why you can’t and probably shouldn’t exercise. But if you want to beat the winter bulge this season, you need to forgo the couch and keep active. Combine exercise with these helpful bulge banishing tips and come summer, you won’t have to resort to extreme measures to fit in to your favourite swimsuit.

Hydrate with water
Skip the hot chocolate with double syrup and extra marshmallows and opt for hot water! Sounds boring right? It doesn’t have to be. You can jazz up hot water with a squeeze of lemon and dash of honey, add a fruity herbal tea bag, cucumber or a segment of orange.

Don’t skip breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Try to eat within two hours of waking up. It’s will kick-start your metabolism for the day. Try having smoatmeal – it’s half smoothie and half oatmeal. It will keep you feeling fuller for longer than blending fruits and veggies.

Plan activities that don’t revolve around eating
Think outside the box on date night or when spending time with friends and boycott buffets and any other restaurant type activities. Ice-skating, skiing, tobogganing, bike riding, hot yoga or pilates will all burn calories.

Find exercise you enjoy
Don’t force yourself to go to the gym and pump iron if it’s not something you enjoy. You”ll be more inclined to stick to your winter workouts if you choose exercise you enjoy. It might be bollywood dancing, badminton, squash or even swimming at a heated pool. You are only limited by your imagination.

Seek out sunshine
Getting a dose of vitamin D can do wonders for your motivation, is believe to curb carb cravings and lift your mood.  When you’re feeling happier you are more likely to make the effort to expunge yourself from the sofa and get busy doing instead of blobbing out.

Plan a holiday
Find winter too depressing, why not plan well in advance and book a two week vacation to a tropical island? With the temperate climate, you’ll be able to go exploring, hiking, snorkelling, swimming and long leisurely walks on the beach.
